Description of Launch Breakouts
Humanizing Equity: In this hands-on, interactive mini-workshop, we will focus on shifting equity efforts to include those most marginalized at the center of solution building. Participants will be asked to bring potential equity efforts and prepare to talk about ways to humanize those efforts.
Healing Justice: This breakout will explore how healing justice—the practice of community and self-care that takes into consideration the stresses and trauma of oppression. We will discuss the need for this approach along with potential barriers and opportunities.
Equity & Policy: This breakout session will focus on the community-engaged strategies to affect policy change to achieve equity through advocacy and building social capital. We will discuss how social and healthcare policies negatively structure health opportunities for communities of color and other marginalized groups and identify assets, programs, and interventions to counter the effects of these policies.
Community Research Ethics: This breakout will discuss ways to ensure that research endeavors meet the needs of all communities, especially marginalized communities. We will discuss ways to integrate community-based participatory research with medical research as a means to increase equitable participation and access to the benefits of medical research.
