About Our Guests

Scott Emerson, Director of Communication, Curriculum, and Outreach

Scott Emerson is a scholar, community organizer, and activist with a love for self-determination, wellness, and social justice.

He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from Tougaloo College and Southern Illinois University respectively. His scholarship engages race and gender in African American literature, mining it for Afrofuturist liberation formations. Scott works to clarify the bridge between neoslave narrative and Black speculative fiction, add to discourses of liberative Black thought, and help thinkers and communities imagine futures in which ALL Black folks can thrive.

Scott is a proud parent, child, and partner who prioritizes joy, humility, dismantling oppressive systems, critical thinking, imaginative future building, and liberation.
